Mission: Commence quilt project.
Assistant: Trixie, aka, Squeaky.
Estimated Completion date: First day of Summer.
Many moons ago AJ and I took a trip through the countryside to the farmlands of Lancaster County. Our mission was to find a pattern, fabric, and supplies for a quilt. We visited the Quilt Museum in Intercourse, PA. We checked out fabrics at several stores. We found a pattern by Eleanor Burns in her book, Quick Trip Around the World. It called for 24 fabrics. We chose fairly basic primary colors and found 24 plus fabrics. The hardest store to find was an out of the way place called Ladyfingers near Oley. It took us the better part of an hour to locate the shop even though we had specific directions. We visited a number of places besides quilt shops and had a grand time.
Life has its twists and turns and the quilt is yet to be started. AJ has been the model of patience and is looking forward to the completion of the quilt. I have reread the pattern book and subsequently lost it. Try as I might I cannot locate it. (In my defense my mother-in-law moved in and the resulting chaos may account for the loss.) So I am using an adaptation of an Eleanor Burns pattern called Color Wheel. Dave and I are at the final stages of plotting out the colors (using 24) and size of blocks. This is my favorite part of quilting...the design stage...but I am very nervous because of the use of so many different colors. I guess the worse that can happen is it looks REALLY BAD. In which case maybe Trixie will have a new bed and AJ will get a purchased quilt.
Soon I will post pictures of the fabrics and computations that we have decided on. I plan to document each step so AJ can see visible progress and enjoy the process as well. Summer is 92 days away...June 20th! Everyone keep your fingers crossed!!
